Your Goal and Your Timing……… Are both right?

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

So, here we are again. You are in pursuit of the thing you hold most dear. You think you have done everything right.

Written your goal——————————-CHECK

Set your deadline——————————CHECK

Asked for help (devine guidance) ———CHECK

Worked your plan——————————CHECK.

However despite the above, you don’t achieve the goal.

WHY?????

Is your goal wrong or is your clock in need of attention?

Think about the variables.

Goal

Work ethic.

Deadline

If  your goal is important to you, RESET YOUR CLOCK AND GO AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Maybey your clock had stopped. change the battery and go again.

As always, I didn’t post this to sit on a server somewhere. If you agree with it, use/ forward it to empower someone

Celebrate Your Wins

To All who have read this blog

You know how I love to help and mentor others? Well this week has been fantastic. The company I work with has decided to endorse the work that I have been doing. They are going to put up two scholarships per year (for the next three years) to SAIT!

Thank you to them for giving back to the mext generation.

In addition they are going to take some additional apprentices from the carpentry program. I will also get to meet the new students!

For me, it’s not about me succeeding. I know I will! But it’s more about helping up someone along side you. Now that is succeYou know how I love to help and mentor others? Motivation Lesson From My Daughter

From the mouth of babes you get innocence. The world from their perspective can give you some great wisdom. On this day I learned a great lesson. Read on………..

Background

I live in Canada and moved here because of my love for skiing.  My boys are snowboarders; therefore my last hope for a skiing buddy is my daughter (fingers crossed).  She has had one previous lesson but I watched her ski.

The Lesson

It was a lovely day; warm with blue skies and not a cloud to worry about. I took here for a skiing lesson and said I would ski with her. This is the first time I’d skied with her. The day was fantastic. She was  going down the hill in snow plough (pizza for the Canadians), loving every minute. We end the lesson and ski the rest of the day. I’m behind making sure she’s ok. The last thing I wanted was to find out when I’m at the bottom of the run, that she didn’t make it.

The way home

I thought I’d give her some encouragement and motivation, so I said You know what? You’re the second best skier in the family.

Her reply was priceless: “What’s with the second best. I’m better than you”

Stunned I said: “Is that right”?

Without missing a beat: “Well I beat you down the hill every time”.

The lesson learned (by me).

I’ve been making sure she makes it down the hill safely. Where in her mind, she was racing!

Priceless!!!

So the lesson I learned was this: When you are going to try and motivate someone, take a minute to find out where their mind is first!

As normal, I didn’t post this for it to sit in a server somewhere. Use it to motivate and empower someone else. Share/ comment as you feel. I look forward to them.

Bring Back The Cat in The Hat

As children, how many of us remember reading these books?  I know I did. However this week I read the following quote:

“You’re off to great places.

Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting;

so be on your way!”

Dr. Suess

Now, for those who have read some of my previous posts, you’ll know I love to empower others. So with that in mind re-read the quote. From the lines I thought, that is so true. Go and attack that mountain that is in front of you! Somehow the simple rhymes seem to have different meanings now don’t they?

As any parent will testify, children watch and learn from us. Go dust off the Cat in The Hat books and read them again. This time with the emphasis of empowering the children to achieve what ever goal is in front of them.

Go after your dreams, your children are learning from you. What do you want them to learn?

A: Dreams are too hard. Just settle for what ever life hands you.

Or

B: The only limits are those of my imagination. Let’s go!

You decide.

As always, If you like this post please share it. I didn’t put this out to sit in space somewere. It is to empower someone to do something amazing!

Ian

Are You In Control Of Your Thoughts?

This quote is not being read by you. This may sound odd, however it is being read by everyone that you have come into contact with.

To prove this point complete the following sentence:

Knowledge is…………. (scroll down to the answer at the end of the post and I’ll prove my point).

So if you are reading this, you will have completed the little experiment and would like to know more. In our every day life, we do things that are ‘automatic’. These are things, whose origin are unknown. Picture the scene:

A couple are preparing Sunday dinner and the husband looks at his wife as she is cutting the ends of the Sunday roast. Quizzically he asks ‘

H – “Why are you cutting the ends of’?

W – ‘ I don’t know. My mum tought me to cook and that’s what she did. Why don’t you ask her’.

H – (on the phone) – Your daughter is cooking a roast, but she cut the ends off. When we were discussing it, she said you taught her to cook but didn’t know why. Why do you cut the ends off the roast?

Mum – (After thinking for a while) – I’m not sure. My Mum taught me and that’s what she showed me. Call her and ask.

So the husband calls Grandma as this was now really intriguing him.  The same conversation as with the Mum took place and he asked the same question.

H – (On the phone to Grandma)  So Why do you cut the ends off the roast?

Grandma – Oh that’s easy, I only had a small pot!!

So for two generations, this innocent task has been passed down to others without even realising it.

Now look around you. Things that you do, say and even how you think. These are things that have been passed down through generations.

So if there is something in your situation that you would like to change. Be the change. This may be hard at first, as this may involve moving outside your comfort zone.

What to do now?

If any part of this post resonates with you please pass it on to others. Smile with them as they do the test and then the self-reflection.

Now act!!! IF there is something around you that you would like to change go for it. If I can help with this let me know. I may not know the answers, But I’ll help you look!  empower someone today to change their situation, and therefore their future!!!

Time is precious, thank you for taking yours to read this post. Remember, if you are working with people, we all have a long history. Take the time to work with each other’s perceptions.

Answer  to the question

If you had said ‘Knowledge is power’, you would be incorrect. Knowledge is potential power. If it was power, then Librarians would run the country! This proves that what you had been told is what shaped your answer. If you now go back I’ll give an example as to how your actions are not your own.

The Business of Business, is PEOPLE

For all the new business owners and want-to-be business owners there is a very important lesson that will unfold with this post.

Remember – The business of business, is people. No matter if it’s Construction, Management, Real Estate, Network Marketing or anything else.

This week whilst working in Canada, I received a message from a colleague. He informed me that a project in South London where we had worked had won an award. The award was for a scheme called the Considerate Contractors Scheme’.

Part of the project listed above was a drive to help with the high level of unemployment in the area. I pushed home with all contractors that they had to take on board local labour. Now this is nothing new. Another part that I found fulfilling was a number of workshops that I ran on the Housing Estate. Now, Most of the men (and women), had been long-term unemployed. The thing I liked was the way that just offering advice would allow some that wanted to better themselves a chance to do so.

I had always enjoyed helping those that wanted it. The rewards stick with you for ever. One such example was on a dark night whilst leaving the project Picture the scene:

Cold and damp inner city street. I’m leaving to go to my car. (I know, not quite Hollywood, but stick with me). A car speeds past me and slams on his brakes as I cross the road.

In my head I think ‘this could be bad’. Then I hear the horn blow and the car reverses up the street. I put the laptop in the car and watch the car approach. As it’s dark all I see are head lights….
(Dramatic stuff eh?). Then I hear: “Mr. Williams!”.

I think – ‘OK, he knows my name’.

What happens next will stick with me for ever. A man jumps out of a car in construction work clothes, with a grin from ear to ear. It was one of the men from the workshop. He shakes my hand furiously, and says ‘I GOT A JOB!!!!! I did what you said and I got a job! I’ve been working for about a month now!’

So now that I’m away and someone else accepted the award. However, the incident above will stay with me long after the trophy has tarnished.

As I said in the title – The business of business, is PEOPLE.

I help people every day. I show them how they can set a goal, and make it happen. If you would like to know more, please contact me and let me know.

As always, If you like this post please share it. I didn’t put this out to sit in space somewere. It is to empower someone to do something amazing!

Know your WHY, and the how will come easier

The picture shown below, is a Hockey Canada jersey, signed by the 2012 team.

A few people have asked did I get this? I was told of a great cause that needed an item for a fund-raiser. So I contacted Hockey Canada and told them WHY I needed an item…. The rest is history. They helped make this happen!!

In life if you focus on your WHY, the how will come.

If you are faced with a project or task, find the WHY, and the how will become clear!

Now take that back to your own situation. What ever it is that you want to accomplish, just focus on the why. . . . . . .

And the how will be easier!

For those who are interested the jersey is being auctioned in February 2013. Contact me if you want to know more.
